THE HISTORY
A Everyone has a story. Mine starts in England in 1960. We came to live in South Africa in 1974 where I happily settled into school and the n UCT where I studied a BA in Archaeology. Career opportunities were non-existent so I made a living selling crayfish, working for a freight clearing company, as an assistant in a microbiology lab, a curtain rod salesman than a photocopier salesman.. At 24 I got serious and entered the computer programming business which provided me with a successful ca ree r culminating in the sale of our company in 1998.
Faced with new options in life I decided to satisfy my need for a great adventure so bought a boat, started a family and set off into the blue Atlantic with my family in tow. 3 Amazing years later we found ourselves sailing to Chile via Galapagos and Easter Island. After a cruise into the fjords of the Chilean archipelago and achieving our goal of drinking G&T with glacier ice we decided to stay in Chile for a while, and a while turned into 9 years. During this time I made my first venture into the restaurant business and bought a tiny steakhouse called Fagan de Cotele. It was a great success ….we even had the President, Michelle Bac hele t, visiting us. But the call of home was too strong and in 2018 we returned to South Africa. With kids nearly grown up the need for income was strong…which is how I came upon the Lime Tree Cafe. Different in almost all respects from Cotele, I loved its ambience and menu, so my working life started afresh in Bergvliet.
The rest is history…. The Lime Tree Cafe has been serving the community and surrounds for nearly 7 years…. I like to think I have kept its spirit strong…and hopefully to carry on for another 7 years
