ABOUT
Lime Tree Cafe, serves a combination of wholesome, healthy, fresh ingredients with equal emphasis on flavour and presentation, often taking inspiration from North Africa, the Middle East, India and the far East.
Here is the story of how Lime Tree Cafe was establised by the Owner Jeremy….
Everyone has a story. Mine starts in England in 1960. We came to live in South Africa in 1974
where I happily settled into school and then UCT where I studied a BA in Archaeology. Career
opportunities were non existent so I made a living selling crayfish, working for a freight clearing
company, as an assistant in a microbiology lab, a curtain rod salesman then photocopier
salesman.. At 24 I got serious and entered the computer programming business which provided
me with a successful career culminating in the sale of our company in 1998.
Faced with new options in life I decided to satisfy my need for a great adventure so bought a
boat, started a family and set off into the blue Atlantic with my family in tow. 3 amazing years
later we found ourselves sailing to Chile via Galapagos and Easter Island. After a cruise into the
fjords of the Chilean archipelago and achieving our goal of drinking G&T with glacier ice we
decided to stay in Chile for a while, and a while turned into 9 years. During this time I made my
first venture into the restaurant business and bought a tiny steakhouse called Fogon de Cotele. It
was a great success….we even had the President, Michelle Bachelet, visiting us. But the call of
home was too strong and in 2018 we returned to South Africa. With kids nearly grown up the
need for incomr was strong…which is how I came upon the Lime Tree Café. Different in almost all
respects from Cotele, I loved its ambience and menu, so my working life started afresh in
Bergvliet.
The rest is history….The Lime Tree Café has been serving the community and surrounds for nearly
7 years….I like to think I have kept its spirit strong…and hopefully to carry on for another 7 years.
Jeremy bought the business and has nurtured its strengths while continuously working to improve the offering.
As for the offering … In the morning we offer freshly baked cakes and scones, paninis accompanied by freshly ground coffee, tea or homemade juice. We also offer cake baking services if you are planning on joining us for a special occasion with friends you can contact us for more information.
The lunch and dinner menu selection is varied enough to suit most tastes, yet narrow enough to be able to guarantee freshly created meals of excellent quality. From genuinely sumptuous salads, to linefish, amazing linguines, curries, steaks and pizzas we have most tastes covered (we only do a few of each allowing us to maintain our high standards). We also always have a specials board for off-menu items depending on what we can get freshest and what is in season….and how the weather is outside.
We have two distinct areas within the restaurant. The bustling main section, that is fully equipped for celebrations , and small functions, the covered patio where we cultivate our delicious limes, and the Deli, offering a wide selection of hand picked home-made items, from some sweet delicacies, vegan products, eggs, cheese and home made preserves. This section has a few tables which is quieter for meetings, card games or conducting business.
